65 tests outstanding due to validation testing; testing changes

According to Chief Medical Officer, Dr John Lee, the HSA laboratory has been conducting validation tests on the new PCR tests that arrived to the Cayman Islands from South Korea yesterday.

This has resulted in some 65 COVID-19 tests outstanding. The validation tests have passed their validation with no problems.

The 65 outstanding tests are as follows:

  • 21 tests were pending the day before yesterday
  • 28 tests were pending yesterday
  • 17 tests are pending today

The Chief Medical Officer advised yesterday and reconfirmed today that the testing protocol needs to change. A meeting of a panel was held this morning on this matter.

The Cayman Islands will be liberalizing its testing requirements, contrary to the WHO guidelines.

More news on this protocol will be provided.
