R&B singer Ashanti is no stranger to the Caribbean and judging from her Instagram posts, seemed to have had the time of her life during her most recent trip to Antigua and Barbuda.

The Grammy-winning artist turned 40 on October 13 and chose to celebrate the milestone while enjoying the sun, sea and sand in the two-island state.

Like a true celebrity, she commemorated the milestone in fine style with relatives and some of her closest friends.

Rapper Flo Rida was among those who journeyed to Antigua for Ashanti's birthday festivities.

The group stayed at the Hodges Bay Resort.

According to owner Jeff Wellemeyer, since news of Ashanti's stay was made public, three other celebrities have also announced plans to travel to Antigua and Barbuda and have made arrangements to stay at Hodges Bay.

Meanwhile, the Gaston Browne administration has since been accused of having a double standard as it relates to enforcing rules and regulations put in place to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Residents of the Hodges Bay and Royal Estate areas said they were rattled by fireworks thinking it was gunshots that interrupted the peacefulness of the night as late as 1:30am.

Chair of the United Progressive Party, Gisele Isaac, said while the government continues to complain about the prevalence of private parties being held in Antigua, they seemed to have no issue with gatherings being hosted by visiting celebrities.

She said local businesses are struggling and dying because of "the Government's knees on their necks."
