Originally from a little village in Brunswick, Canada, Helen Jones picked up her first camera when she was 16 years old.

"That's when everything was film photography," she recalls. "I had to make sure not to waste pictures because I would need to pay to get them developed, but sometimes I would get so excited and I'd want to shoot anything that moved," she laughs.

In the years that followed, and after experiencing some traumatic life events, Helen began to struggle with fear and anxiety. "I had so much fear; pretty much fear of everything," she explains.

"I had not touched a camera for 27 years. Then one day, I picked up a camera again. I was in my fifties and the world didn't look so scary through my lens. Everything began to make sense."

Helen now lives permanently in the Cayman Islands with her husband and has won a number of awards for her craft.

"Cayman has been very good to me," she says. "I get to take pictures of the most beautiful sunsets and nature. It has been a little hard during these past few weeks because of COVID-19 but there is always a picture to take and a story to tell. Behind the lens of my camera, there is no room for fear; only beauty as I see it."

Like many creatives, COVID-19 has inspired Helen to create. She recognizes the vivid colours of nature and she sees elements of the environment coming back to life.

Here are five of her favourite photos of Cayman under lockdown.

"The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service guarding our beaches. This was taken the day before they closed down the beaches."

"The fish are happy no boats around so they can play!"

"I took this one on my walk after supper, just before the curfew was in effect. It looked like he was in a hurry to get home so as not to get fined!"

"With no boats, no swimming, no fishing I have never seen anything so peaceful. The sky was so blue and water was beyond clear. I could see right through with all of the fish swimming."

"I love the colors of the sunsets in Cayman. These are the colors through the palm trees in my back yard."
