Barbadian Caymanians get ready to celebrate 53rd independence
Barbadians in the Cayman Islands are celebrating the 53rd anniversary of independence of Barbados with Barbadians around the world, .
The Cayman Islands contingent headed by the Honorary Consul to Barbados Juliette Gooding-Michelin will begin the day’s celebrations on November 30 with a Thanksgiving service from 11 am to 12 pm, at the Jimmy Powell Cricket Oval in West Bay.
Following the church service, there will be activities throughout the day which include presentations of dance and song by Bajan youth and Bajan food will be on sale. Also included will be various activities for children such as face painting, bouncy castle and water slides.
The highlight of the day will be the scavenger hunt which has several teams registered including an all Caymanian team with members who are claiming that they will surely beat the Bajan teams!
The Bajans are up for the challenge!
The day’s events culminate with a Bajan party with music and dancing from 8 pm. All events take place at the Jimmy Powell Oval on Dill Lane, West Bay.
Barbadians all over the world have received a call to action by the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, introducing Barbados' Vision 2020 titled “We Gatherin’ Barbados”… to celebrate who we are!
This call for action is for Barbadians, those at home and those anywhere in the world - Bajans by birth, Bajans by descent, Bajans by choice and those who love Barbados - to join heads, hands and hearts to help “build the best Barbados together”.
This will be a catalyst for national transformation.
Ms Gooding-Michelin has described We Gatherin’ Barbados! as "a year-long campaign when Barbadians recommit to the core Barbadian values that define who we are as a proud, caring and industrious people with an outstanding tradition of excellence across every nook and cranny of Barbados. It will focus on rebuilding that spirit of community at the core of our traditional Barbadian way of life. It will provide opportunities for all Barbadians to celebrate, participate and invest in events and projects across the entire island."
