Two big-hearted community police officers hit the court with youths from their beat as part of a new community outreach programme.

Bodden Town Community Officers, PC Reynolds Matthews and and AC Lance Thomas of Beat 5 launched the Youth in Focus program in the North Sound Gardens Playground.

It's designed to assist young people in the different communities of Sector Two (Bodden Town District) by providing them with wholesome activities, especially in sports, to keep them occupied and healthy.

On the day of the launch, Sunday March 3, officers met with the youths and had some chats before playing a game of basketball with them. The event was well supported by the community as a large number turned out with their children to participate and many of those present expressed their enthusiasm and support for the initiative.

Several Community Policing Officers from other beats attended the launch to assist and support their fellow officers as well.

PS Pompey, sergeant in charge of Sector Two said: “The program is geared towards all children, but especially towards those youth in the communities who have been struggling with interpersonal and communications skills, who may then be led off the path to success. It is to help them get back on track and interact with other youths who are striving so that they can become positive role models for each other.”

Youth in Focus will be travelling to different communities within Sector 2 (Bodden Town District) in the coming weeks. If you are interested in hosting a Youth in Focus meeting in your community or you would like to get involved in the event, contact PS Pompey at the Bodden Town Police Station number - 947-2220.
