Students from the Cayman Islands School of Hospitality Studies (SHS) enjoyed a visit to the Brasserie Restaurant, George Town where they met celebrity chef, Spike Mendelsohn.

Spike Mendelsohn is the first chairman of Washington DC’s Food Policy Council  and is probably best known as the fifth place finisher in season four of the hit TV series Top Chef.

SHS students were given career advice from Mendelsohn on the exciting world of international cuisine and how to maintain the Cayman Islands as the Culinary Capital of the Caribbean.

The Brasserie Restaurant blends a modern approach to cooking with traditional ideas, local speciality items and pristine ingredients harvested straight from the island’s finest artisans. What makes this restaurant truly unique is its superior commitment to farm to table dining.

According to the Brasserie, "The speciality of the cuisine stems from the Restaurant’s devotion to nurturing relationships with the best local farmers and fishermen. The restaurant even has its own boats, The Brasserie Catch I & II. Sample pairings of the freshest island vegetables and fruits picked straight from the Restaurant’s own garden as well as some of the island's most passionate small farmers."
