Cayman Islands Red Cross thrift shop finds new home

In December 2018, the Cayman Islands Red Cross (CIRC) Thrift shop opened its doors at a new location.

The shop is now located at Cannon Place in George Town.

The shop moved from its original location at the CIRC Headquarters on Hulda Ave due to renovations being done to the building, which also serves as the CIRC’s hurricane shelter.

“We are so excited about our new Shop”, said Remy Imperial, Manager of the Thrift Shop.

“Since renovations on our building began, we’ve operated out of our Deals on Wheels Community Outreach Trailer, at the Farmers Market, and even held some sales on the Cricket field! We are so pleased to finally welcome our loyal customers to the new shop, where they can truly enjoy their shopping experience," she added.

The transition from the Headquarters location to the new home has been a smooth one, with the help of Red Cross volunteers. In addition, CIBC/FCIB has made a generous donation of $5,000 to the CIRC Thrift Shop.

An annual supporter of the Thrift Shop since 2011, CIBC/FCIB has donated funds which will go towards purchasing shopping bags and baskets, as well as installing lockers for Shop volunteers in the building that is being renovated. In addition to the financial donation, CIBC/FCIB regularly donates items from their own yard sales, as well as support the Thrift Shops Program’s Donate with Dignity Campaign.

The CIRC Thrift Shop is the most popular service provider of the Red Cross, with over 15,000 customers served in 2018 alone.

The Thrift Shop Community Outreach Program serves the most vulnerable in the community by offering new and gently used items, ranging from clothing, shoes, to furniture, appliances, and other household and miscellaneous items, which are all generously donated by members of the community.

The Thrift Shop also works closely with a number of government departments, agencies, and NGOs who refer their clients and beneficiaries to the Thrift Shop Services.

These clients, who range from people affected by fires to vulnerable families, are given access to Shop goods, free of cost, including: clothes, bedding, furniture, and any other items of which they are in need.

The new Thrift Shop is located at Cannon Place, 284 North Sound Rd unit 130. Shop hours: Tuesday – Thursday: 9am – 2pm and 5pm – 7pm. Friday: 9am – 2pm. Saturday 7:30am – 1:30 pm. Shop is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
