CIAA announce changes to affect ORIA departure hall come Nov 16

Passengers using the Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) come November 16 can expect to be guided by customer service personnel to their appropriate gate entrance.

The information comes after the Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) on Tuesday announced changes which are expected to affect some airport gates beginning on November 16.

According to the CIAA, the East side of the Departures Hall, which will serve Gates 8 and 9, will open for departing passengers.

They further said in a release that access to the East side of the Departures Hall will be immediately on the left after passengers clear the Security Screening Check Point area.

All other gates will be to the right after clearing the Security Screening Check Point area.

This is phase two of a three-phased opening of the completed Departures Hall and follows the expanded Immigration Hall, which opened in October 2018 with 9,420 square feet of space, and the expanded Security Screening Check Point, which opened earlier this month.

Substantial completion of the Airport project is slated for January 2019, including the remaining Departures Hall expansion.

When completed, the Airport will also include the addition of a children’s play area, mothers’ nursing station, digital flight information displays, a food court, a duty-free shopping gallery and common-use self-service kiosks.

The expansion will almost triple the Airport’s size from 77,000 to 208,000 square feet, accommodating up to 2.5 million passengers per year.
