Customs registration to begin October 16
Following news that a new online system of customs declaration takes effect November 1, 2017. The Customs Department has announced that registration for the new system is slated to begin on Monday, October 16th.
Business owners will only be allowed to access the new online electronic system for entry declaration after registration and the reception of formal recognition by the Customs Department as an importer.
Importers must complete and submit declarations electronically to Customs using the new gateway portal COLS (Customs Online System) accessible through the department’s website.
Registration closes October 27th. The department's office will open to applicants from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
Applicants are to visit Customs headquarters in person and to provide relevant information. Documents required include a government-issued identification such as a driver’s licence or passport. Companies and businesses must also provide their business licence and/or company registration, including directorship.
The Customs Headquarters is located in George Town, at 42 Owens Roberts Drive, also known as Airport Road on the first floor.
