Dog believed to be a Pit Bull attacks 8-year-old girl in Prospect

An 8-year-old girl was attacked by a dog on Birch Avenue in Prospect on Wednesday at around 5:00 pm.

Reports from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) are that a dog belonging to the residents of the home had escaped its tether in the yard.

The dog is said to have chased the two children who had been staying at the home.

One of the children, an 8-year-old girl, was bitten several times by the dog, and sustained a very serious bite to her ear in particular.

She was transported to the hospital by ambulance with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers who attended the scene attempted to contain the animal, who is said to have charged at them.

Armed officers drew their weapons but did not fire, as the dog eventually settled down.

An Animal Control officer arrived and gained control of the animal with assistance from police officers, and the dog was taken into the custody of the DoA.

The dog is believed to be a pit bull.

The incident is currently under police investigation.
