Dominica Assoc of Industry and Commerce urge citizens to obey laws
The Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce is urging citizens to be mindful of the nation’s laws when engaging in protest action in the lead up to the December 6 general elections.
In a release issued on Tuesday, the Association said any sequence of events that compromises law and order, shocks the business community and rattles the confidence of the nation’s people, must be condemned.
“These events can and will also compromise investor confidence and will cause us quite easily to step back to the dark days of the immediate post-Hurricane Maria catastrophe.”
The DAIC also reminded the security forces of citizens' right to express themselves and encouraged the use of an even-handed approach to law enforcement.
The release further stated that the marriage between responsible advocacy and responsible leadership is vital in order for the country to continue moving forward peacefully and to ensure that the private sector stays confident through the electoral process.
The Association believes that Dominica was able to regain a sense of normalcy after two destructive weather events because of the diligence and togetherness of its people. With this in mind, the DAIC said citizens should ensure that actions today don’t negatively affect their lives and livelihoods at the end of the electoral period.
