Drug use on the rise? 5 arrested for ganja on Walker’s Road
Police say residents in the Walker’s Road community have expressed concerns about what they perceive to be a sharp increase in the use of drugs in the area.
In response to this concern, police ramped up their presence in the community and have since made five arrests.
In the first instance, RCIPS officers said that on Monday they went to a location along Walker’s Road, between East Boulevard and Moxam Road, where they came upon a group of men acting suspiciously behind an older building.
Officers searched the men under the Misuse of Drugs Law and recovered a ganja cigarette and a portion of suspected ganja on one of them.
Three men, ages 18, 21, and 22 of George Town, were arrested on suspicion of possession and consumption of ganja.
The men were later bailed.
Again on Tuesday, officers returned to the area and made two further arrests for possession and consumption of ganja.
Two men aged 16 and 18 were arrested in connection with the incident and later granted bail.
