Early morning attempted robbery leaves man with fractured ankle

A man sustained a fractured ankle in a robbery attempt which occurred early Thursday morning along North Church Street, near the junction of Mary Street in George Town.

Reports are that the incident took place just before 3:40 PM when a man approached another man, the victim,  who was walking in the area and asked him for money.

When the victim refused to give the man any money, the man brandished a machete and demanded the victim hand over his wallet.

A struggle took place between both parties and the victim managed to disarmed the suspect who then fled the scene.

The victim received several injuries including a fractured ankle and other abrasions to his hands and knees.

According to the victim the suspect is  tall  with a slim build and was further described as a older man of light brown complexion with curly hair.

The victim was later taken to the hospital for treatment and later released.

No property was stolen during the incident.

The police in a release noted that they searched the surrounding and connected area for the suspect but no one fitting the description was located.

The police are seeking the assistance of the public in locating the suspect in this matter.
