Eight taken to hospital after crash involving police

Eight people were taken to hospital after a collision involving a police vehicle.

The crash happened on Shamrock Road in the vicinity of Northward Road in Bodden Town just after 9:30am this morning (May 9).

Two police vehicles were assisting HMP with the escort of a prisoner in an HMP van when a passenger car headed eastbound and a police SUV at the rear of the convoy collided.

Two adults were in the passenger car with four children, while two police officers were travelling in the SUV.

Emergency services, including a paediatrician, attended the scene and all eight people were transported to hospital. The prisoner was returned safely to HMP Northward.

The eastbound lane of Shamrock Road remained blocked for some time, with motorists routed onto Will T Drive.

At this time, injuries sustained by the parties are believed to be minor.
