Expatistan says Cayman is the 2nd most expensive country in the world

A day ago, Loop Cayman reported that the Cayman Islands was ranked the 5th most expensive country in the world, according to the World Bank. According to data last updated on yesterday, world cost of living advisor, Expatistan has determined that Cayman ranks in second place worldwide, as per its calculations.

According to Expatistan, a family of four living in the Cayman Islands has estimated monthly costs of CI$6,129 while a single person has estimated monthly costs of CI$3,241.

In first place, and in keeping with the World Bank calculations, was Bermuda. Expatistan found Bermuda to be 10 per cent more expensive than Cayman overall. While Cayman was found to be 26 per cent more expensive than Bermuda for transportation, all other categories were found to be more expensive in Bermuda, including food (40 per cent more expensive) and housing (23 per cent more expensive). 

Grand Cayman was found to be 52 per cent more expensive than Toronto, 25 per cent more expensive than London, 8 per cent more expensive than Zurich, 55 per cent more expensive than Dubai and 40 per cent more expensive than Tokyo.

Switzerland, Hong Kong and the Bahamas took the 3rd, 4th and 5th places respectively.

Last year Cayman was found to be the most expensive country in the world.
