First year nursing students host health expo at UCCI
Each year, nursing students at the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) are tasked with completing a major project.
First year nursing students, along with the Director of Nursing, Terica Larmond, decided that a health expo would be ideal for this year's class project.
The health expo was held on June 29 and saw students highlight many of the topics they learned throughout the semester in their health promotion class.
Through a series of booths, students provided information on disease prevention and disaster prevention.
Each booth had students who provided detailed information on each topic.
Glennique Bodden, one of the first year nursing students, stressed the importance of the health expo as a way of keeping community members informed and aware, especially as the Atlantic hurricane season gets underway.
"There are so many persons in Cayman that are still unaware of what to do during a disaster such as, a hurricane," said Bodden.
"We believe that this should be a project that we undergo each year so that we can continue to educate the people of Cayman on the importance of being prepared and also provide awareness about diseases, " she added.
Students from John Gray High School were also invited to the expo; with each student receiving brochures with health and hurricane tips, as well as, other incentives for their visit.
