Governor urges caution after discovering fake social media account

In a statement on Thursday the Governor's Office said that it had come to their attention that a bogus LinkedIn account had been been set up using  the Governor’s personal information.

The account, according to reports received by the office,  is being used to solicit funds  to support a unnamed charity.

According to the Governor's Office the page named “Governor at Cayman Islands” is wholly fabricated.

"If anyone receives this type of communication from an account by that name they should ignore it, especially any correspondence which suggests donating money to a fund, " read the statement. 

"The Governor would never use social media for such a purpose," added the statement.

The Governor does have a LinkedIn account which carries his correct title and has over 500 followers. The URL for this account is

The matter has been reported to both LinkedIn and the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service.
