Residents return home after fire at Sol Fuel distribution centre

Early Monday morning residents were told that they could return to their homes after Fire Officers extinguished a fire at the Sol Fuel distribution centre on South Church Street.

Around 3:00PM on Sunday evening it was reported that suspicious smoke had forced the evacuation of residents living in the vicinity of Sol Fuel distribution centre; forcing police to block off Sound Road/Walkers Road and North Church Street/Boilers Road.

Shortly after 2.45 am on Monday, the "all clear" was issued and residents were advised that they can safely return to their homes.

According to the agency for Hazard Management, Fire Officers fought the fire for over 8 hours.

“We should all be proud of the response from our firefighters and other first responders today. They did a great job and all worked together under challenging circumstances. I am also pleased to report there were no injuries. This was a potentially dangerous fire involving a large quantity of fuel, and our first responders did what needed to be done to keep the public safe,"read a statement from Chief Fire Officer, DavidHails on the agency’s Facebook page.
