The Northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico are expected to receive one to three inches of rain from Tropical Storm Josephine when it interacts with the territories this weekend.

The National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said the centre of Tropical Storm Josephine was located over the Atlantic Ocean about 575 miles (920 km) east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands at 11 am AST.

“It's moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph (26 km/h) and this general motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days followed by a turn toward the northwest late this weekend or early next week,” the NHC said.

On the forecast track, the centre of Josephine is expected to pass to the northeast of the Leeward Islands during the weekend.

The storm has maximum sustained winds around 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km) mainly to the north of the centre.

Some strengthening is possible during the next 24 hours.

After that time, Josephine is expected to encounter upper-level winds that will not be conducive for strengthening.
