US tourist dies snorkeling in East End

According to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS), on Saturday evening, May, 19, 2018, emergency personnel responded to a report of a person in distress in East End.

A man had been out snorkeling when he encountered difficulties. He was assisted to shore by members of the public nearby and then transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital. He subsequently lost consciousness and was later pronounced dead.

The man, age 57, was a visitor from the US.

This is the seventh water-related death involving a United States visitor since the start of the year.
