Walk in Her Shoes for International Women's Day
A very special event will be held in Cayman on Friday to celebrate International Women's Day.
The Cayman Islands Crisis Centre will host its 4th Annual ‘A Walk In Her Shoes’ to raise funds and awareness to support the Centre’s mission to end domestic violence in the Cayman Islands.
And to mark the CICC's 16th anniversary, the event will have a 'Sweet Sixteen' theme featuring live entertainment, a DJ, balloon pop raffle prizes, and satellite bars provided by Abacus, West Indies Wine Co., and Caybrew.
Eclipze Spa is also offering free toe nail polish for participants on Thursday, March 7 from 3-4:30pm, and free make-up applications for participants on Friday, March 8 from 3-4:30pm. (Call Eclipze to schedule as appointments are encouraged, 945-1188.)
Michelle Lockwood, CICC Chair of the Fundraising Committee said: “We have recently announced our intention to build a new shelter, but this event is for the on-going programmes of the Crisis Centre. All of the funds go to housing and providing much needed assistance to the victims."
Opening up about the event, Michelle revealed: "Sometimes the men are wearing heels higher and more daring than me. It always has such a great crowd and everyone loves the vibe of the men taking a small step to helping the women and children at the Crisis Centre."
Her top tips for new participants include choosing a modest heel to start with and focusing on your technique rather than speed. “I always stress this is a “walk” not a race, so no need to push yourself for the first time,” Michelle added. “If you want to take it up a notch, add some pretty necklaces or paint those toes a bright colour. Don’t take it too seriously! The goal is to have fun for a great cause.”
Ms. Lockwood says the Centre is always blown away by the amount of support ‘A Walk In Her Shoes’ receives from the community.
The event will take place from 5pm on March 8 at Camana Bay.
