Jamaica's Sunshine Girls received a timely confidence boost on Monday ahead of the Netball World Cup.

Jamaica’s netballers have climbed to second spot in the world rankings of the International Netball Federation, which were released on Monday.

The Jamaican women lie second behind many-time world champions, Australia. They overtook England in the rankings, which are based on matches played up to June 30.

The always-competitive England are ranked at number 3, while New Zealand and South Africa complete the top five.

A video circulating on social media showed some ecstatic Sunshine Girls celebrating as the new rankings were being read.

It is a timely confidence booster for the Sunshine Girls ahead of this year’s Netball World Cup which will be held in Liverpool, England between July 12- 21.

Australia and New Zealand have jostled with each other for the number one ranking and are the only two countries to have held that distinction since the introduction of world rankings in the sport in 2009.

Jamaica is drawn alongside South Africa, Fiji and Trinidad and Tobago in group C.
