The Rotary Club of Grand Cayman Sunrise (Rotary Sunrise) donated 60 backpacks filled with school supplies to the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) for distribution to needy students in Grand Cayman.

The backpacks were presented to DCFS director Paulinda Mendoza-Williams.

“The department is truly grateful for this wonderful donation of school supplies. The supplies will ensure that our children have the tools needed to begin the new academic [year] with confidence and support their success throughout the year,” Mendoza-Williams said.

Each backpack contains a card and quote from Rotary Sunrise President Stacy Parke, which states, “A good education will give you the opportunity to make a real difference in your life and community.”

The backpacks also contained supplies that were on Years 4,5 and 6 school list: Box of coloured pencils, composition book, 2 pocket folders, boxes of dry eraser, glue stick, scissors, pencils, wooden ruler, USB flash drive (4GB), hand sanitizers, eco-friendly water bottles; and headphones.

Additionally, Rotary Sunrise will also be donating 60 reusable kids facemasks to DCFS for distribution to children in need.

Twelve backpacks of school supplies will also be donated to the Rotary Sunrise Early Act children at George Town Primary School. Additional school supplies will be furnished to DCFS Cayman Brac.

Rotary Sunrise has expressed its gratitude to its members and friends who made the donation possible.
