A 6 foot Spinner dolphin, Stenella longirostris, was found stranded dead on Bodden Town Beach.

The discovery was made by the Department of the Environment on May 25.

Spinner dolphins are found in tropical and subtropical waters throughout the world, but they are typically seen in offshore waters off of the Cayman Islands.

Spinner dolphins are known for their acrobatic behaviours, including leaps and spins along their longitudinal axis. Physical appearance and colouration are highly variable throughout their range.

Wounds characteristic of shark bites were observed on the body of the dolphin and it is believed that sharks may have scavenged the carcass after death from other causes.
