Cayman: Latest Deadline for Voter Registration Nears

The latest deadline for voter registration in the Cayman Islands is drawing near.

Those who register by the October 1 date will be added to the Register of Electors and be able to vote from January 1 2021 onwards.

The current Register of Electors stands at 21,903.

After the October 1 deadline, any qualified Individuals wishing to vote in the next General Election, May 26 2021, have until January 4 2021 to register to vote if they haven’t already done so.

Young persons aged 17 years who otherwise meet the voter eligibility requirements and will turn 18 on or before the date of the next General Election are permitted to register to vote before their next birthday.

Individuals looking to take advantage of this constitutional provision, are encouraged to review their documentation. Those who will lose their right to be Caymanian when they turn 18 will be required to apply for and receive a continuation of their right to be Caymanian before their voter registration process can continue.

“Since the last registration deadline, we have seen encouraging numbers of individuals registering to vote. As we begin to increase our efforts ahead of the next general election, we hope to see more people come forward to register. By registering to vote, you play your part in maintaining a healthy democracy in the Cayman Islands,” said Supervisor of Elections, Wesley Howell.
