Cayman: Suspected act of arson at RCIPS Business Center

There has been a suspected act of arson at the RCIPS Business Center located at Windjammer Plaza on Walkers Road.

At about 8:40pm on Monday, October 26, officers responded to a report of a fire at the RCIPS Business Center, which comprises the Criminal Records Office and the Security and Firearms Licensing Unit, and the Professional Standards Unit.

The Cayman Islands Fire Service attended the location and extinguished the fire.

While no one was injured in the incident, there was extensive damage to the location, including extensive smoke and water damage to the premises.

As a result, the Police Business Center at Windjammer Plaza, including the Criminal Records Office and Professional Standards Unit services are temporarily suspended and the centre remains closed. Due to the current operational changes, the public is also advised that there may be a longer turnaround time than usual for documents. The fire is being treated as a criminal act of arson and is being investigated by RCIPS CID. Anyone with any information or who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact the RCIPS Major Incident Room at 649-2930.
