Earlier this month Rotaract Blue, the community service club for young adults, partnered with the Department of Children and Family Services to provide school shoes to underprivileged children in the community.
More than US$6,000 was raised at the 6th ‘Put Your Best Foot Forward’ dress down day fundraiser held on August 14. The campaign colour was orange, to represent anti-bullying.
Community Service Director Kathleen Zinyakatira, explained that the need for support has been compounded with the pandemic. The number of students requiring support increased from 80 to more than 130.
Despite circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and most businesses working remotely, the organization received an outpouring of support from the private sector with participation and support from: Ocorian, Maples Group, Dart, Jacques Scott Group Ltd., Massive Group, Frederick + McRae Ltd., Tricor Global, Balboa Management, Edies Décor Ltd., Bella’s Beauty & Barber Studio, Stepping Stones Ltd., CARA (Cayman Attorney Regulation Authority, Saxon, NCB Group, Strategic Risk Solutions, Complete Service Group, Employees of KPMG and PWC, Barmetrics, and Conolly Concierge & Consulting.
Rotaract Blue are now in the process of collecting the funds raised and will be placing the order for the shoes this week with the aim of having them arrive before the beginning of the school year in early September.
Rotaract Blue will continue the Put Your Best Foot Forward initiative once again next August for the 2021/2022 school year. If your organisation would like to pledge your advance participation, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The next Rotaract Blue meeting will be held at Spanglish Restaurant at 6 pm on August 19.
