Live Blog: Eyes on TS Gonzalo as warnings are issued

Tropical Storm Gonzalo has triggered hurricane watches and tropical storm watches as it tracks towards land. Here's the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Centre.

A tropical Storm warning is in effect for St. Lucia, Barbados and St. Vincent & the Grenadines. This means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area within 36 hours.

A hurricane watch is in effect for Barbados and St. Vincent & the Grenadines.

A tropical storm watch is in effect for Tobago and Grenada and its dependencies.

This is according to the US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) in Florida update at 5 am AST (July 24).

Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph (95 km/h) with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next day or two, and there is still a chance that Gonzalo could become a hurricane before reaching the Windward Islands.

The NHC says that Hurricane or tropical storm conditions are possible within the respective watch areas on Saturday.
