The Slay Network hosts virtual slay convention on Sunday

Save the date in your G-Calendars because the team at Jus Slay Beauty Bar are prepping for their virtual slay affair.

‘The slay shall return’, and ‘Be the woman you needed as a girl’, are two of the taglines touted for the inaugural slay convention, encouraging females to embrace their fabulosity in all areas of their lives.

The Slay Network was conceptualised by Tamara McPherson, the reigning Festival Queen of St Elizabeth, and past president for the Rotaract Club of Liguanea Plains.

It is expected to provide a meeting space for women between the ages of 18 and 40 who will discuss topics such as personal finance and mortgages, health and wellness, beauty and skin care, relationships, travel and spirituality, and mindfulness.

The work McPherson did at Jus Slayed Beauty Bar – which she dubbed a virtual beauty store – has evolved into a more wholesome response to the impact of COVID.

Indeed, this is something for the community, to ‘provide hope’ and uplift other females in hopes that they ‘resurface [from the ills of the pandemic] as lionesses’.


McPherson pooled her resources to handpick a group of female specialists to discuss varying topics.

The ‘slay-powerment’ sessions will be moderated by Amanda Spencer.

The specialists include Anna Palomino on finance and real estate; Dianne O Brown on health and wellness; beauty and skin care by Teeah Anderson; entrepreneurship and financial independence by Shereka McGhie and Sannicia Coward; and intimacy and relationship from Caleen Deidrick and Matthew Ricketts.


Jus Slay Beauty Bar and the annual Essence Festival of Culture, more popularly known as Essence Fest are the reference points for the slay convention.

McPherson, who dreams of one day presenting at Essence Fest, is enthusiastic about The Slay Convention: ‘…this is my first time hosting an event, and nobody has said no yet’.

‘It’s a slay-powerment, not an empowerment,’ she hastened to correct.

And, with all the female empowerment conferences on the market, Loop Lifestyle was curious to what separates The Slay Network from the others.

McPherson noted that the typical conference is unattainable and costly, so ‘the average Jane can’t attend’.

She also mentioned a particular stigma associated with a number of the empowerment sessions available today, that they are spearheaded by ‘mean girls’.

‘We’re trying to create a safe space where all women are invited, once you’re looking to live a wholesome life, this is where you need to be to access quality advice and information.’
