The essential nature of social work as a profession was honoured at the Social Workers Recognition event at Pedro St. James on Saturday, September 26.

The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) hosted the dinner and awards ceremony where His Excellency the Governor, Mr Martyn Roper accompanied by his wife Lissie, Deputy Governor Hon. Franz Manderson and Councillor of Community Affairs, Mr. Austin Harris took the opportunity to commend the department’s social work staff.

The Long Service and Social Work Month ceremony, which had been postponed in March, due to the pandemic featured speeches by the Deputy Governor and Councillor Harris who recognised all that social workers do to make lives better for the Cayman community.

"Pleased to hand out awards including Joyce Hylton award to social worker of the year Ms Howell. Many congratulations! The excellent steel plan player gave me some tips. Need all the help I can get! Overall, a great night celebrating our colleagues and friends who also did amazing work during Covid," said the governor, of the event.
