Tropical Storm Theta has been downgraded to a tropical depression.

The US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said at 9am GMT (4am EST), the centre of Theta was located over the far eastern Atlantic Ocean about 650 miles (1050 km) southeast of the Azores.

It's moving toward the east near three mph (six km/h).

A continued slow eastward motion is expected today, followed by a turn toward the north-northeast with an increase in forward speed on Monday.

NHC has forecast that Theta will gradually weaken and become a remnant low later today and could dissipate in a few days.
