Noting that she has been bothered by the high number of Jamaican students who are unable to access online learning, dancehall star Shenseea says she's donating more than 100 tablets to support children in need of electronic devices to participate.

She made the announcement in a video release via social media Thursday.

"This is something that has been bothering me since the lockdown, especially since I'm a single mom; I can only imagine what some parents are going through so I'm giving away over 100 tablets to support your child that have difficulty gaining access to participate in online schooling," the 'Blessed' singer said.

According to estimates from both the Ministry of Education and the Jamaica Teachers association (JTA), hundreds of thousands of students are without a device such as a tablet, laptop or smart phone that would allow them to continue their education online.

It is a problem that is of increasing concern to sector leaders and civil and private sector groups as schools have been shuttered since March 13, three days after Jamaica confirmed its first positive case of the coronavirus.

There are reports that some children have not had any form of schooling since because they are unable to access the internet due to the lack of an electronic device.
