WATCH: St. Ignatius staff choir's 1st virtual performance of Ave Maria

The St. Ignatius Catholic School Staff Choir has been working on a little project over the past month-- to rehearse and release a special song for its school community.

The St. Ignatius music program is recognized as one of the premier music programs in the Cayman Islands; students of all abilities and experience levels participate in a variety of offerings, and the staff are also highly involved.

Each member of the staff choir worked diligently during individual rehearsals, despite having to teach online classes and managing the stress of their own families and COVID regulations. The choir also took part in small group rehearsals under the direction of Miss Sue Horrocks, alongside a very talented team from the music department who contributed to the musical accompaniment, singing and knitting the masterpiece together. Special thanks went to Mr Vito Biliti and Miss Lauren Knuckey.

Music teacher, Mr Biliti was also involved in a number of personal musical projects during the shelter in place period, releasing "Fresh Air", a song about how the planet and the environment are getting a break due to lockdown. The song was covered by Forbes.

"A lot of creative things are happening because we have no other choice, like virtual orchestras for example," said Mr Biliti. "We’ve all had to adapt to a digital environment, and every person on Earth is being forced to learn new ways of doing things, many of which are better than the old ways. Combine this with a whole lot of free time and you get some truly innovative projects."

Here is the first-ever virtual song, of Ave Maria by Giulio Caccini, from the St. Ignatius Staff Choir.

The St. Ignatius Staff Choir and all of the Team at St. Ignatius sends its blessings and wishes for a wonderful Summer.
